Brochures are important for businesses or organizations to distribute information to the public. Brochures can be created for almost any event. Tri-fold brochures are very popular because they can display a lot of information without looking crowded or overwhelming. Tri-fold brochures are simple to make with Microsoft Word, and they can be printed out on your home printer.
Instructions
1. Open Microsoft Word on your computer. A blank document should appear.
2. Find "Page Layout" at the top of the window and click on it. This will open an entire new menu at the top of your window.
3. Click on "Orientation" and select "Landscape." This will make the document wider than it is tall, so that when it is folded, it looks like a tall, thin brochure.
4. Click on the "Margins" button and change the top and bottom margins to 1/2 inch, or .5. The left and right margins should be changed to 1/4 inch each, or .25. This will center the text in each column.
5. Select "Breaks" at the top and make sure that "Columns" is selected. This will ensure that the text goes from one column to the next.
6. Click on the "Columns" button and select three columns. This will automatically divide the document evenly into three spaces.
7. Begin typing your brochure text. Remember that on your document, the far right column will be the front, the middle column is the back of the brochure, and the far left column is the folded-in piece.
8. Open another document and repeat the page layout procedure to create the other side of the document. On this side of the brochure, the columns run true, with the left being the left and the right, the right column.
9. Type your text or insert pictures for the inside of the brochure.
10. Print the documents on both sides of one piece of paper. If you need to, print one side then put the paper back in the printer to print the other side.
11. Fold the brochure in three, so the front faces out.
