Troubleshoot A Sylvania Plasma 6842pe

Sylvania's 6842PE is a 42-inch high-definition plasma television. The TV has a wide-screen aspect ratio of 16:9 and a viewing angle of 160 degrees for a cinematic viewing experience. It can display high-resolution video up to 1080p when configured with high-definition input. The display uses composite video input for HD video and does not have HDMI ports, which are standard on newer high-definition devices. Despite its thin 13-inch-thick body, the 6842PE is rather heavy, weighing in at 94.8 pounds. Use caution when moving or working around this unit.

Instructions

1. Move the television so that you have access to the power and signal connections on the back of the unit. Verify that all of the plugs are inserted all the way into their respective jacks. Trace the cables to verify that they connect to the other components in your home theater system. Most importantly, verify that the power cable is connected to a working power outlet.

2. Insert fresh AA batteries into the remote control. Attempt to turn the television on with the remote control and the power button on the television itself. The green LED next to the Power button will turn on.

3. Turn on all external media sources (such as cable boxes and DVD players) and press the "Input Select" button on the remote control until an image appears on the screen. If no image appears on the screen, disconnect the input from its current jacks and switch it to a different set of jacks. Always match the colors on the RCA or component cables with the colors on the television jacks.

4. Press the "Menu" button on the remote control. Press the right arrow key to open the "Picture Select" menu. Use the up and down keys to scroll through the image settings and the right and left keys to change the settings. Adjust the settings until you get a clear image. Press "Menu" to save your changes and exit.

5. Realign your antenna or satellite dish if you receive poor video quality while watching television but not when using a DVD or Blu-ray player. Consult your antenna or satellite dish user manual for the proper alignment procedure for your unit.

6. Move other electrical devices such as power drills or bright lights away from the television to reduce electrical interference. Electrical interference will cause picture distortion, including spots, streaks and picture drift.
