Become a Radiology Technician
Both physician's offices and diagnostic imaging centers are looking for qualified radiology technicians who can take x-rays of the body to help diagnose any health problems. This is one of the faster growing careers for the next several years.

1. Make a list of the pros and cons of personally pursuing this as a career. Do you have the right interests? What about the skills? Do you want to work in the healthcare field? Do you like working with technology? Do you want to work alone or with people/? Do you like sitting down most of the day or walking around and standing? In this job, you will be working with equipment, both alone and with other people, and mostly in a standing position. You should like math, sciences and mechanics.
2. Receive formal training in a variety of areas of radiology. Training programs include such courses as anatomy, pathology, physiology, medical glossary, radiation physics and protection, and basic foundation of imaging. Pursue two to four years of schooling with a college or university. If you already have a degree in nursing or related field, there are one-year courses that you can take. The more experience and training you acquire, the greater will be your opportunities in performing more complicated procedures.
3. Consider specializing in a field of radiology. In school, you can be prepared to work in the magnetic resonance imaging or computerized tomography diagnostic imaging technologies.
4. Complete your four-year degree and then follow up with a one-year certification program. Certification is not required for a job, but most employers prefer that the candidates have this status. If you become certified by the American Registry of Radiologic Technicians, you will have to finish twenty-four hours of continued education courses every two years.
5. Plan ways for advancement in the future. A radiology technician can be promoted to a radiology technologist, for example, after a few years of experience and certification.
