Compare Broadband Vs Satellite

Satellite broadband is mainly used in rural areas

Satellite and broadband Internet can generally be compared along three different categories: price, speed and reliability. These will tend to vary with each provider, and depending on your location either option could be appropriate.

Price

In cities, broadband Internet tends to be more common and is cheaper than satellite services, as it requires less hardware. However, in rural locations broadband may not be available, and so satellite Internet makes a perfect alternative; this is especially true if your Internet connection operates from a mobile facility, such as a camper.

Speed

Satellite broadband is generally slower than traditional broadband, although it's faster than dial-up. For this reason, don't select it if speed is a key priority.

Reliability

Satellite broadband is not reliable; it can be affected by weather and can routinely experience delays (such as a time-delay when using a webcam or other communication tool with another computer). Traditional broadband's reliability will depend on the local provider, although issues such as weather interference will be less significant than the satellite alternative.
