Interpret The Blue Screen On Nt

The "Blue Screen of Death" (BSoD), or stop screen, halts the continued operation of the system to display a message informing the user of a critical error. The blue screen in Windows NT can be difficult to interpret---particularly for the average user---as the message may only display a list of hexadecimal codes. Windows Support offers an extensive database that contains information on most of the error codes Windows NT may display on a stop screen.

Instructions

1. Power on the Windows NT computer and use the system until the blue screen appears. Copy down the first hexadecimal number listed in the message (i.e., if the message "STOP 0x00000024" appears, copy the first set of codes after "STOP").

2. Sign on to another system and launch a web browser. Go to Microsoft Support (see Resources).

3. Type the hexadecimal code into the search box and press "Enter" to search the Microsoft Knowledge Base for any articles related to the blue screen error.

4. Select an applicable link in the results and read the instructions to find out bypass the error.
