Radiology Tech Programs

ARRT-approved radiology tech programs teach students to administer X-rays.

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that an increasing elderly population and advances in medical-imaging technologies will lead to a 17% growth in the demand for radiology techs from 2008 through 2018. The first step to entering the field is the completion of a post-secondary education program in the field. A number of schools in the United States offer radiology tech programs that carry the approval of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), allowing graduates to take the necessary state-licensing examinations.

Aiken Technical College

A member of the South Carolina Technical College System of schools, Aiken Technical College is a public, two-year school approximately 50 miles southeast of Columbia, South Carolina. The college offers an Associate in Health Science in radiological technology and includes experience in basic X-ray science as well as computed tomography or CT scans. In addition to courses related to the major such as radiation biology and physics, all students must complete classes in psychology, algebra, anatomy, public speaking and English. The required curriculum includes off-campus clinical rotations, to which students must have their own transportation. Job placement assistance is available for all graduates.
