Confirm the warranty has expired before you disassemble your Olympus FE-210.
The Olympus FE-210 is a compact point-and-shoot digital camera designed for the beginner or amateur photographer. The camera is built around a 7.1-megapixel CCD (Charge Coupled Device) sensor and a 3x optical zoom lens. Today's digital cameras are just as much mini computers as they are cameras. Should you need to replace an internal component, you can disassemble the camera and remove and replace the component at home.
Instructions
1. Contact Olympus or the retailer you purchased the camera from and confirm the warranty on the camera has expired. Once the camera has been disassembled by anyone other than an authorized technician, the warranty will be voided.
2. Turn the camera on and discharge the built-in flash at full power. Quickly turn the camera upside down and remove the battery from the compartment located in the bottom of the FE-210. The built-in flash stores power in a capacitor circuit inside the camera. Touching this capacitor when it is full of power can result in a significant shock. Discharging the flash and removing the battery will help to minimize the amount of power stored in the capacitor.
3. Remove the memory card from the camera and the two small Philips screws located on each end of the camera. Once the screws have been removed, firmly but carefully pry the rear casing from the camera.
4. Lay the camera face down on the table or desk you are working at. Use the same small Philips screwdriver to remove all of the screws that are holding the LCD screen in place. Follow the wires from the screen to where they are plugged into the circuit board. Disconnect the wires and lift the LCD screen up and out of the camera.
5. Remove the screws from the corners of the main circuit board that is inside of the camera. Carefully lift the board up and out of the camera. Turn the circuit board over so you are viewing the front of the board that has the lens assembly.
6. Remove the screws, lift the lens assembly up and follow the wiring harness to where it is plugged in. Disconnect the wiring harness and remove the lens assembly from the board. Behind the lens will be the sensor and shutter assembly that is built into the circuit board.
