Radiology requires training in using x rays.
Radiology equipment is typically used by radiologic technicians and technologists. Many students who wish to learn use radiology equipment receive training in medical radiologic technology.
Equipment
According to the Occupational Information Network, the equipment used in by radiologic technicians and technologists includes medical x-ray darkroom equipment or supplies, medical x-ray film archiving system software, medical x-ray intensifying screens, x-ray bone densitometers, hypodermic needles, medical radiological positioning aids, medical syringes without needles, and radiographic locators.
Programs
The Bureau of Labor Statistics states training programs include both classroom and clinical instruction. In 2009, the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology accredited programs, which included 213 programs leading to a certificate, 397 programs leading to an associate degree, and 35 leading to a bachelor's degree.
Coursework
College Board, a non-profit that aids students in finding educational opportunities, mentions typical courses in medical radiologic technology which include clinical practice, human anatomy and physiology, radiobiology and protection, pathology, radiologic exposure, radiographic positioning, and radiologic physics. Students may intern at a hospital where they can receive practical hands-on experience on radiology equipment.
