Some grant opportunites in Florida target the environment.
Many states use a grant system to encourage the development of specific industries. In Florida, various grant opportunities focus on environmental issues and health research projects. Businesses and individuals with grant proposals and projects to improve the ecosystems along the oceanfront find Florida a favorable framework for research. Many grants available in the state are limited to businesses involved in development and research.
NIH Small Grant Program (R03)
This grant mechanism supports small research projects designed to complete in a short period. The grant funds pilot or feasibility studies, secondary analysis of existing data, development of research methodology or the development of new research technology. All grants investigators should consult a participating NIH Institutes and Centers staff member for further information. Grant applications may be filed electronically via the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services website.
Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR)
This grant program intends to stimulate scientific and technological innovation via cooperative research and development. The design assists the small business and research communities in commercializing innovative technology. A business must be American-owned, for profit and have fewer than 500 employees to qualify for this program.
Coastal Management Program
The Florida Coastal Management Program helps to fund agencies implementing the statutes that protect and enhance natural, cultural and economic coastal resources. This program awards grants to local coastal management projects in the program areas that focus on resilient communities, public access, working waterfronts and coastal stewardship. Each year around August, the agency produces a brochure with a Notice of Availability of Funds. Additional monies provide for state agencies and water management districts with needs related to implementation of the statutes for environmental improvement.
Florida Opportunity Fund
The Florida Opportunity Fund invests in seed and venture capital for new businesses in the state. The program design fosters creation, retention and growth of companies and jobs in Florida. The Opportunity Fund is a joint venture between Milcom Venture Partners, Florida First Partners and the Credit Suisse-Customized Fund Investment Group.
