Florida Grants For Disabled Veterans

Florida offers its veterans grant opportunities for enrichment and life quality.

Florida, like several other states, provides grants for disabled veterans. Florida's veterans benefits are separate from these grants, as the grants are specific to disabled veterans and their dependents.

Homes

The Veterans Administration offers grants to disabled veterans for adapting their homes, according to Florida Housing's Special Needs Housing website. The grants can be used to build new homes or to alter homes already owned or built to help make them handicap-accessible. The grants are for 50 percent of the cost of the home, or up to $50,000, for new construction or purchase. Grants of $10,000 are available to adapt existing homes. Temporary residency adaptation grants are awarded for the construction period.

Education

The Scholarships for Children and Spouses of Deceased or Disabled Veterans and Servicemembers program provides full tuition for children, spouses or non-remarried widows of service members or veterans who died from service-connected injuries or diseases. Dependents of veterans classified as 100 percent permanently and totally disabled also qualify, as do children of service members considered missing in action or prisoners of war. The child must be a student in a public or private Florida school, and the program must be accredited.
