Kaiser Permenente Foundation Grants

Kaiser Permanente is a non-profit entity with a mission to improve the health of specific communities. Kaiser Permanente supports organizations that provide health care and insurance coverage assistance for low income people, community health initiatives and knowledge distribution. Kaiser Permanente's mission is one of better health and education for underserved communities, but does not make grants to individuals.

Regions Served

Kaiser Permanente's grants occur through eight regional offices. Areas served include northern and southern California; Colorado Springs, Denver and Boulder, Colorado; Georgia; Hawaii; Maryland; Virginia; Washington D.C.; Oregon; Washington state; and Ohio. Grant applications process directly by the Kaiser Permanente office in each of the regional locations, and each region has a website with grant applications and procedures that are specific to the region.

Disqualifying Entities

Grants will not be made to non-charity golf tournaments, sports teams, individuals, religious entities, partisan political activity events, any event sponsored by an alcohol or tobacco company, and any organization that promotes alcohol or tobacco use. Kaiser Permanente does not provide grants to any organization that is outside of the regions served by the organization.

Grant Process

Kaiser Permanente does not have grant deadlines, as the board reviews grant applications quarterly throughout the year. Documents required to apply for a grant include the grant application; a copy of the IRS tax-exempt letter for the entity requesting a grant; a list of the board of directors and any affiliations the board members have; financial statements to include the annual operating, income and expense budgets of the organization; and a list of other entities where grants for the same project have been requested.

Grant Example

Kaiser Permanente approves educational theatre programs aimed to improve the knowledge of children regarding healthy choices. For example, Kaiser Permanente supports an interactive play "The Amazing Food Detective" that seeks to help children from kindergarten to third grade decide on responsible choices about diet and physical activity.
