How Much Do Saline Breast Implants Cost

How Much Do Saline Breast Implants Cost?

Breast-augmentation surgery with saline implants is one of the most popular cosmetic procedures in the United States. More than 355,000 breast augmentations were performed in 2008 alone. Saline implants are made from a silicone shell that is inserted into the bod, then filled with sterilized salt water. The cost of saline implants can greatly vary depending on several factors.

History

In May 2000 the FDA approved saline breast implants for breast augmentation and reconstruction in women 18 years and older. Two companies, Allergan and Mentor, manufacture and sell these saline implants in the United States.

Breakdown of Cost

It's important to consider the entire cost of saline-implant augmentation. Generally the plastic surgeon's office will present you with a price quote for the entire surgery. This price is usually an all-inclusive estimate and involves the cost of the implants, the surgeon's fee, the cost of the hospital or surgery center, cost of any healing bandages and supplements, and the cost of the anesthesia. Based on these factors, the total cost of the surgery can greatly vary; for example, certain surgeons and anesthesiologists can charge a higher fee than others, and some hospital rates are more expensive than others'.

Price Range for Saline Implants Alone

Although the total cost of saline breast-implant surgery can fluctuate, saline implants alone generally range from $750 to $900 for a pair. Again, this cost can range based on region and other factors. For example, a plastic surgeon in Denver, Colorado, charges $850 for saline implants, while a surgeon in Beverly Hills, California charges $1,000 for the same saline implants.

Price Range for Saline Implant Augmentation Surgery

According to the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons, the total cost of saline implant augmentation surgery in the U.S. ranges from about $4,700 to $9,000.

Importance of Research and Communication With Your Surgeon

Researching the cost of augmentation in your area is very important. Be wary of those who offer a very low price on the surgery---but you also don't necessarily need to choose the most expensive surgeon. Regardless of price, make sure your surgeon is board-certified in plastic surgery and experienced in the procedure. Schedule a consultation with several surgeons and interview them, asking many questions about the surgery, including the price.
