Scholarships For Women In Math

To redress the gender disparities in mostly male fields of study such as science and mathematics, governmental and philanthropic organizations have devoted special grants and scholarships to attract and retain women to specialize in these fields. Professional associations for women have sprouted nationwide and have helped to mobilize the efforts to increase the visibility of women in mathematics.

The Tensor Foundation awards grants for programs aimed at recruiting underrepresented women into mathematics at the middle school, high school and first-year college level. Proposals that address these themes can be submitted to the foundation, which will provide grants to project directors. The goal of the fund is to increase the representation of women in the mathematics.

The International Federation of University Women awards grants to women graduate students specializing in all fields of study. Applicants must be second-year doctoral students or post-doctoral candidates and members of IFUW's national federations and associations, or independent IFUW members.

Cornell University awards the annual Ruth I Mitchel Memorial Prize to women who have been promoted to an Associate Professorship in math.

The Field Research for Women in Mathematical Sciences is a fellowship for highly qualified women who have had to interrupt their academic careers due to family responsibilities such as child-rearing and wish to resume conducting their research in mathematics. Applicants should have been engaged in research or post-doctoral studies before the interruption of their research.

Virginia Women's and Professional Women's Foundation awards one-time grants to women who are Virginia residents. The Women in Science and Technology Scholarship is awarded to women who are working toward completing their bachelors, master's or doctoral degrees within two years. Applicants must be over the age of 18, United States citizens and submit a letter of intent, and a financial need analysis along with their transcripts.
