The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) delivers annual reports regarding the earnings of obstetricians and gynecologists. According to these reports, obstetricians and gynecologists, like other physicians, are among the top earners in the nation.


Salary Figures


According to the BLS statistics in 2009 the mean annual salary for obstetricians and gynecologists was $204,470 and the mean hourly wage for these workers was $98.31. Only 10 percent of obstetricians and gynecologists made less than $99,520 in 2009.

BLS figures indicate that between 2008 and 2009 obstetrician and gynecologist salaries increased 1.4 percent overall. The average increase for all occupations during this time period was only one-tenth of a percent.


Top Paying Jobs


Certain types of employment tend to be more lucrative for obstetricians and gynecologists than others. BLS experts say that obstetricians and gynecologists employed by private practices and specialty hospitals earned the most in 2009.
