The Side Effects Of Amoxclav 875 Mg

Amox-Clav, manufactured by Geneva, is an oral antibiotic medication. It consists of amoxicillin and clavulanate potassium, per RxList.com. It comes in several dosages including 875mg and 500mg tablets.

Amox-Clav comes in different shapes depending upon dosage.

Significance

RxList explains that Amox-Clav has been prescribed to treat infections that are suspected to be caused by bacteria. Using Amox-Clav in this manner may reduce the development of drug-resistant bacteria.

Uses

Examples of bacterial infections Amox-Clav may be prescribed to treat or prevent include lower respiratory tract infections, ear infections, sinusitis and urinary tract infections.

Dosage

Most tablets of Amox-Clav come in 250mg or 500mg tablets. Combining two 250mg tablets to create a 500mg dose is not advised by RxList as the contents would not be the same. In severe infections an 850mg tablet may be prescribed.

Side Effects

RxList points out that very few side effects were revealed in clinical trials. Walgreens.com identifies a few possible side effects as dizziness, minor diarrhea, nausea, diminished birth control effectiveness and tooth discoloration.

Warning

Penicillin allergies can result in death from anaphylactic reactions. Amoxicillin is from the penicillin family and should be avoided. Any signs of allergy should be reported to a medical professional immediately and the medication discontinued.
