Host A Community Health Fair

Hosting a Health Fair in local communities can offer life-changing resources on how we address health issues.

A Community Health Fair is a way to inform residents of a variety of health information available by local medical providers. As host, one should allow at least two to three months to effectively plan a health fair. The size of the fair will also dictate how much time should be given to plan the event.

Instructions

Consider the Following Steps

1. Step 1: Develop a planning committee. This committee will help plan and coordinate the logistics of the Health Fair.

2. Step 2: Agree on a theme. The theme should focus on a specific health issue, such as Heart Health, Children's Health or Diabetes, just to name a few.

3. Step 3: Identify logistics. This includes a date, time and location. When considering a location and time, take into consideration your target audience. A basic understanding of your audience will make it easier to schedule the appropriate time of day for the event.

4. Step 4: Use interactive displays. Depending on the focus, this will help determine how much space is required for each display. Displays that include Q&A, video kiosks and other exhibits that allow attendee interaction might be helpful.

5. Step 5: Invite health specialists. These resource professionals can offer life-saving health screenings for individuals attending the fair. Advertisement of free screenings may also serve as an additional incentive to draw people to the event.

6. Step 6: Decide on a marketing and advertising campaign. An effective marketing campaign may include identifying a sponsor. This might help defray costs associated with the Health Fair. Useful advertising ideas may include radio, newspaper, and social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. There are a variety of resources available that will provide you with free promotion.

7. Step 7: Arrive early the day of Health Fair. Give yourself enough time to oversee set-up of displays, posters, exhibits, distribution material and any equipment, such as VCRs, projectors, DVD players, etc. As overall event host, designate a host or hostess for the event and registration desk.
