A List Of Tech Schools Near Fayetteville Georgia

Technical training helps students prepare for the workforce.


Technical schools have started seeing a dramatic increase in enrollment due to a shift in the employment sector toward more specialized fields. According to statistics provided by PayScale in February 2011, the top hourly paying jobs in Fayetteville, Georgia, belong to the technical field. While going to a technical school cannot guarantee a job, it does narrow down the competition. Fayetteville has several nearby technical schools to choose from.


Laurus Technical Institute, Jonesboro


Operating since 1986, Laurus Technical Institute offers Allied Trade training in heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration programs commonly referred to as HVACR Programs. In this program, students must take 56 credit hours to graduate in order to be qualified to take the Environmental Protection Agency Certification test to access their skill level. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, this field has excellent employment opportunities due to a much faster than average job growth. Laurus Tech provides a small classroom setting with day or weekend classes. They are accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. Laurus Tech is located about 9 miles from Fayetteville.


Griffin Technical College, Griffin/Southern Crescent Technical College


Founded in 1963, Griffin Technical College recently changed its name to Southern Crescent Technical College, and is 20 miles from Fayetteville. This two-year college offers diplomas, associate degrees and certificates in the technical field. The programs range from business, health care, technical/industrial and public services, along with several other certificate programs. In the 2008 to 2009 school year, the school had more than 4,000 students enrolled in day, distance learning and weekend classes. This school is accredited by the Commission of Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.


Everest University, Jonesboro


Everest University, about 12 miles from Fayetteville, was founded in 1977 and is formerly known as the Georgia Medical Institute. This university provides hands on technical training in the health care field. With a small classroom setting and accelerated courses, the school offers many programs that students can complete within nine months. Students here can take day, night, weekend and online classes and will receive a certificate upon completion. Everest University received accreditation through the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.


Clayton State University, Morrow


Located just 14 miles from Fayetteville, Clayton State University is one of the newer schools in the area. This school is one of the few considered a "Notebook University" in which each student has access to a notebook computer. In 2007, the school first opened its doors to on-campus housing, allowing 450 students to become residents. CSU offers many technical programs to include Health Care, Criminal Justice and Computer Networking in which students can receive a baccalaureate degree or associate degree or obtain a certificate of training. Accreditation for this school is through the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.


Javelin Technical Training Center, Morrow


In 2010, Javelin Technical Training Center joined forces with Medtech. This school, which is 15 miles from Fayetteville, offers a small classroom environment in which students can receive hands on technical training in business, healthcare, or technology. While taking day or night classes, Javelin Tech students take short-term courses in which they can receive a certificate or diploma in the technical field. The school earned accreditation from the Commission of the Council on Occupational Education.
