Radiologic technology majors learn use X-ray equipment to produce diagnostic images for physicians and doctors. Since X-rays emit radiation, radiographers are also responsible for protecting themselves and patients. Several public Mississippi colleges offer radiologic technology and prepare students to pass certification exams, allowing them to have successful, rewarding careers as radiographers.
Mississippi Delta Community College
Mississippi Delta Community College has been serving students of seven Mississippi counties for over 80 years. The radiologic technology program at MDCC begins every August and runs for 22 straight months. Students who complete the program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree and are eligible to take the American Registry of Radiologic Technology exam. The program provides both general education and clinical training. Students learn on campus in classrooms and labs, then develop their skills with actual patients during clinical rotations with affiliated hospitals. Hospitals affiliated with MDCC include Delta Regional Medical Center in Greenville, Greenwood Leflore Hospital in Greenwood, Bolivar Medical Center in Cleveland, Northwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center in Clarksdale, South Sunflower County Hospital in Indianola and Grenada Lake Medical Center in Grenada.

Northeast Mississippi Community College
Founded in 1948, Northeast Mississippi Community College has an official service area that covers Alcorn, Prentiss, Tippah, Tishomingo and Union counties. NMCC also enrolls students from other counties, Tennessee, Alabama and other states. The radiologic technology program at NMCC is an associate degree program that focuses on general radiology principles and prepares students for the ARRT registry exam. Students must complete 26 hours of prerequisites to be eligible to begin the program. The program is full-time. Between 12 to 14 students are accepted to begin each fall. Students who are accepted into the program are required to purchase a PDA to track and document the clinical portion of the program. Some hospitals or clinics where NMCC students gain clinical experience include Magnolia Regional Health Center, Baptist Memorial-Booneville, Baptist Memorial-Union Co., Iuka Hospital, Tippah County Hospital, The Imaging Center in Tupelo, and Eliza Coffee Memorial in Florence, Alabama.

Mississippi Gulf Community College traces its history to 1925, when it opened as one of the state's first junior colleges. The radiologic technology program at MGCC lasts 24 months and begins with a summer session. Graduates of the program earn an Associate of Applied Science degree in radiologic technology, and are eligible to take the ARRT exam to become registered radiographers.
