Radiography Schools In Illinois

Radiography Schools in Illinois

U.S. federal law mandates that medical professionals who work with radioactive materials receive licenses from their respective states before treating patients. Because of this, radiologic technicians in the state of Illinois must obtain a license from the Illinois Emergency Management Agency. The first step in the process involves completing an educational program approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and a few schools in Illinois fulfill this requirement.

Wilbur Wright College

Wilbur Wright College is a public community college located in Chicago, Illinois. The school has more than 11,000 students, with a student to faculty ratio of 31 to 1. The ARRT-accredited radiography program at the college takes two calendar years to complete and requires six semesters of full-time study. Graduates from the program receive an associates of science degree. The school offers a guarantee to all students who complete the program; if a student's employer finds that his skills in radiography are lacking, the school will provide the student with 12 credits of additional training at no cost. On its website, the radiography department reports that it has never had to provide this service for a student during the fourteen years the program has been in place. For the 2009-10 school year, the cost to attend Wilbur Wright College was $79 per credit for students within the Chicago city limits, $259.15 per credit for all other Illinois residents, and $308.55 for out-of-state students.
