Diy Wedding Cake Stand

Craft your own wedding cake stand with items around the house.

The wedding cake is one of the first things guests notice when they arrive at your wedding reception. Use the wrong cake stand and you risk drawing attention away from the cake or, worse, having the cake topple over when someone brushes against the table. Companies offer a wide range of cake stands, including plastic and metal versions, but you also have the option of making your own inexpensive wedding cake stand. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Look for cake-stand inspiration online, focusing on the colors and styles that you like, as well as those that work well with the style of your cake.

2. Fill a glass flat-bottom bowl with fresh flowers or any other decoration of your choosing. Keep one hand on the top of the bowl as you gently turn it over so that the edges rest on the table. Set a matching glass plate directly on the top of the overturned bowl and rest your cake on top.

3. Stack three hatboxes of varying sizes on the table, putting the largest on the bottom and the smallest on the top. Make sure that the top box is large enough to hold your cake. Add sand inside each box to provide more stability.

4. Stack books in the same way you would stake the hatboxes for a wedding cake stand. Lay the books on top of each other at a slight angle, to create more interest and catch the eye. If you have a larger or heavier cake, arrange two books side by side on the bottom, to create a larger support.

5. Find gift boxes of the same size as your cake and fill the inside with sand, heavy books or something else with enough weight to support your cake. Wrap the outside of the boxes in silver or white wrapping paper and add ribbon around each one that matches the colors of the wedding. Stack your wedding cake on top of the gift boxes.
