Home health care training in New York.
The Bronx is the northernmost borough of New York City, located approximately 25 miles from the Statue of Liberty and 12 miles from La Guardia International Airport. There are various training options for the home health care industry in the Bronx, from college programs offering degrees in health care specialties to community organizations offering free courses.
Job Outlook
According to the U.S. Department of Labor Statistics, home health aides require a low level of skills, but also receive low compensation. About a third of all home health aides work in a part-time capacity, and most work with various clients on a given day. Job opportunities are excellent because of the rising number of people preferring home care to that of a nursing home or assisted living facility. The BLS says that the employment of home health aides is expected to grow by 50 percent from 2008 to 2018.
College
The Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program at Lehman College is designed for students interested in becoming a home health aide or other health care professional. Students in this program learn in the classroom as well as in supervised clinical situations. Graduates of this 130-hour program are certified to work as home health aides and qualified for entry-level jobs in hospitals, clinics, hospices and nursing homes.
