Three Ways To Earn Girl Scout Ips

Volunteering is one way to earn the interest project award.

Girl Scout ambassadors, cadettes and seniors are allowed to organize interest projects. Each interest project has a mandatory activity as well as a list of additional activities, projects and a reflection paper. In order to receive full credit for the interest projects, the Girl Scout must include all of the elements. The activities can require a lot of time and planning, so keep this in mind when selecting an interest project.

Before You Get Started

Every so often, interest projects are retired and new ones are introduced. Avoid spending time on a retired project that will no longer qualify as an interest project. Before selecting an interest project, contact your local council shop or contact Girl Scout Merchandise to be sure that the materials for the project are still available. Additionally, review the options for interest projects and select one that you not only have time to complete, but also interests you.

Crafts

Girl Scouts can complete knitting and sewing projects for the Sew Glam interest project. The required element of the interest project is creating a pair of distressed jeans. The jeans cannot include glue-on or sew-on patches. Instead, Girl Scouts must be creative to give a pair of their jeans a worn and distressed look. Embellish the jeans with elements such as beads, sequins and paint. You must also complete at least one of the Sew Glam "Learn, Do, Share" activities. The "learn" activities include learning crosstitch, back stitch, buttonhole stitch and running stitch. Use these stitches to create a decorative pillow for your room. For the "do" portion of the interest project, you can make a back-to-school outfit by using only what is already in your closet. The outfit must include pants, shirt and a bag. Finally, Girl Scouts must complete a task that shares their knowledge with others, such as sewing or knitting dog accessories for a local animal shelter.

Giving Back

Girl Scouts can have an impact around the world when they select the Global Girl Scouting interest project. Girl Scouts are required to write a proposal of how they would help girls and women around the world. The proposal should include statistics supporting the choice in improve the lives of women and girls in less fortunate situations. To complete the learning requirement, you can research a non-profit organization devoted to helping girls and women. Then, you should brainstorm ways to educate people on the resources of the organization, as well as design a logo. Include a description and explanation of the logo. To complete the interest project, consider interviewing a woman in the community who has gone overseas to serve women and children. Share the interview answers and what you learned with friends and your group. You should also volunteer at a local organization that works with underprivileged women around the world. Volunteer up to a week of your time to the organization. Do not forget to write a reflection paper on the experiences.

Work From Home

Disorganized Girl Scouts can complete the G.O. Girl! interest project to get them organized. To start, select an area around your room to get organized. Make notes on organize the space. Then, go through the section and divide things into a pile to keep, give away or throw out. Put away only the items in the "keep" pile in the space. Write a tip sheet with five ways people can be organized. Make copies of the tips and share with friends and family. Give your room a makeover. Use a measuring tape to measure your room and furniture. Use a 1 inch equals 1 foot scale to make a paper model of your room. Brainstorm ideas on improve the space and use it in new ways using the paper models. Keep a list of the pros and cons of each setup. Use the best setup to rearrange the furniture in your room. Then, write and produce a public service announcement on the benefits of being organized. The announcement can be a poster or video that includes information for resources in the community that help people with the clutter in their homes. Include what you have learned in your reflection paper.
