Become A Cna In Hawaii

Becoming a CNA in Hawaii only requires a few steps.

It's estimated that certified nursing assistants, or CNAs, can make up to $35,000 a year in Hawaii depending on experience and location. CNAs are a vital part of the health care industry and training is available in Hawaii for those who are interested. Attainable steps are required before one can be eligible for employment as a CNA.

Instructions

1. Complete one of Hawaii's state approved CNA programs successfully. The American Red Cross-Hawaii Chapter holds day and evening classes for CNA training. These trainings are held year-round.

2. Pass the CNA competency certification exam for Hawaii. This exam is given by the American Red Cross. You are given 5 1/2 hours to complete a two-part test. The written portion cannot be taken until the skill portion of the exam has been passed. The skill section is a hands-on test to measure your ability to perform nursing aide skills learned in training. The written portion may consist of up to 70 multiple choice questions.

3. Pass a criminal background check. Passing of the background test is a requirement before credentials will be issued. If something comes back in your background history that prevents you from receiving certification, you can request to be exempted. An exemption request can be filed with the Hawaii Nurse's registry.

4. Renew CNA certification every two years. When the time comes to renew your CNA certification, a form will be mailed to your address on file with the Hawaii Nurse's registry. It is required that you keep your information current.
