Breast Deformation

No one has perfectly symmetrical breasts.

The breasts are among the most common parts of the body for performing cosmetic surgery. All women have one breast that is slightly larger than the other. The difference is not usually noticeable by anyone but the woman herself. However, there are other breast deformities, including extra breasts, extra nipples, extreme enlargement and underdevelopment that may cause physical and psychological problems for the person experiencing them.

Breast Enlargement in Males

During puberty, males experience slight breast enlargement which is very normal. These physical changes are a result of hormonal changes taking place within the body. A tender mass is formed beneath the nipple. Within a few months or up to a year, the mass will disappear. Gynecomastia causes enlargement of breasts in the male to expand to the proportions of a female. This is caused by fatty and glandular tissue. A cause of gynecomastia has not yet been found, but it may be genetic, or a hormonal imbalance.

Breast Englargement in Females

The breasts of females enlarge during puberty as a result of natural hormonal changes that take place. Breasts may also enlarge during pregnancy or after weight gain. Breast development may rarely cause skin deterioration and bleeding, also known as gigantomastia. Pain in the neck, breasts, back or shoulders may be a result of serious breast enlargement. Rashes and breakdown of the skin beneath the breast are signs of extreme breast enlargement.

Underdeveloped Female Breasts

If breasts do not develop during or after puberty, this could be a sign of an absent breast bud and could be a result of Poland's syndrome. The muscles in the breasts do not develop properly or do not develop at all, and a chest deformity may also be noticed. One breast may form properly while the other does not.

Polythelia & Polymastia

Polythelia, or supernumerary nipples, is a condition where an extra nipple appears. The nipple may appear above or below an already present nipple. In some cases, the nipple may appear in other places of the body, with no area being an exception. Polymastia causes an extra mammary to appear, sometimes without a nipple. If a nipple is not present on the extra breast, this is a congenital defect.

Tuberous Breast

Tuberous breast is a condition that results from a development deformity. It causes a breast mound shaped as a tube. Physical problems are not usually present with tuberous breast.
