Risks of Ultrasound in Pregnancy
Ultrasounds produce images of an unborn fetus using sound waves. There are two types of ultrasound: transvaginal and transabdominal. Ultrasounds are generally thought to be safe, but there are some risks associated with them.

Miscarriage is more common in women who receive more than 20 hours of ultrasounds per week .
Pre-Term Labor and Infant Mortalty
Ultrasounds are thought to contribute to pre-term labor and infant mortality. Research is still being conducted to determine the exact link between ultrasounds, pre-term labor and infant mortality.
Wrong Diagnosis
Ultrasounds can sometimes lead a doctor to diagnose a condition that is not present, which in turn can cause unnecessary procedures for the fetus and mother.
Ultrasonic Waves
Ultrasonic waves can be harmful. They put thermal and physical pressure on the fetus that are thought to be unnecessary.
Delays and Issues
Mothers that have many ultrasounds during pregnancy have a higher risk of having children with speech delays, dyslexia and learning problems.
