Help Women Prisoners

Women in prison can use a lot of help. Some of these women have families on the outside that are suffering because of the lack of a female presence in their lives. Helping these women in any way possible is important so that they can become accustomed to and prepared for life on the outside. In addition to the government programs that you can get involved in, there are local programs that you can look into that are affiliated with churches and community service groups.

Instructions

1. Write letters to women prisoners. This activity is beneficial because for one reason it shows them that someone genuinely cares for them. Female prisoners need someone to care about what's going on in their lives and who can point them in the right direction when they get out of prison.

2. Set up activities that will engage the women prisoners. These can include charity projects such as Habitat for Humanity, picking up trash and performing good deeds. You also can organize classes that will help the women when they get out of prison such as finance classes, anger management classes or emotional health classes that teach them interact with others on a normal level.

3. Help women in prison by working with several groups to help find them housing, jobs, and anything else they may need to have a chance of making it in the outside world. You should only do this if you have the money or networking experience to accomplish this without getting into financial trouble.

4. Offer medical programs that will help women prisoners remain healthy. You can speak with local offices and try to get them to agree to participate on the condition that it is for charity. You will have to have a contract drawn up, and you will need to get the proper authorization from the government.

5. Spend time with women prisoners at least once a month. When you spend time with them, you get to know them and can understand what help they really need in order to succeed on the outside.
