Grants offering education and training opportunities for individuals working in construction.
Construction training programs educate prospective construction workers in the theories and practices of structures, buildings and developments. Training programs emphasize safety and protecting workers, civilians and occupants from occupational and health hazards. Grants are available to ensure that management and labor receive the training to prevent accidents and injuries. Funding through these grants also provides training and employment opportunities and encourages the implementation of green technology.
Susan Harwood Training Grants
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration offers construction training grants through its Susan Harwood Training Grant Program. Organizations eligible for these grants include universities, colleges, professional associations and labor unions. Grants are designed to ensure that prospective construction workers have the education and training for this field. OSHA wants to make all construction sites and workers safe and free from health hazards.
Work Zone Safety Training Grant
The American Traffic Safety Services Association awards the Work Zone Safety Training Grant to prevent fatalities or injuries from occurring in highway work zones. The grant offers training to construction companies and teaches them about nighttime work, variable speed limits, pedestrian protection, work-zone law enforcement and safety training.
Women in Construction Training Program
The Women in Construction Training Program offers grants that provide training and construction opportunities to women. Grants provide women more than 400 hours of training and teach them to install windows and doors, paint, refinish wood floors, lay tile and install kitchen and bathroom fixtures. The program focuses on low-income women who are looking for skills and employment opportunities to become self-sufficient.
Green Communities
Green Communities offers Charrette Grants designed to educate and train developers and construction workers to implement green technology into buildings, residences and developments. These can only be applied to new construction sites, and applicants must include the cost of materials and labors in the grant proposal.
