Write A Fellowship Letter Of Interest

Fellowships can be completed by students or professionals.

A fellowship is a program run by a business or institution that invites training professionals and graduate students to propose projects, typically for research or other academic and career-enhancing purposes. For example, a professor at a university or physician at a hospital might be opening up a fellowship for which graduate or medical students may apply. To start the application process, you would write a fellowship letter of interest and send it to the professional or educator who is overseeing the program.

Instructions

1. Read the requirements for the fellowship carefully. There will likely be a due date by which to send the letter of interest.

2. Head the letter. Include your name, contact information and the date you are sending the letter for review.

3. Address the greeting to a specific person. The head of the fellowship should be included in the requirements you read.

4. Introduce yourself by explaining your education or career level and what qualifies you for the fellowship, including your degree, degree in progress and professional experience. Again, the qualifications will be in the requirements.

5. Outline the project you are proposing for the fellowship. Include the details needed for the head of the fellowship to be able to visualize the process and the results. For example, if you are proposing research, include your hypothesis, methods and type of data with which you will be working.

6. Thank the head of the fellowship at the end of the letter for taking the time to review your project. Close with a professional ending, such as "Sincerely" and type your name. Remember to sign the letter of interest before you send it.
