Famous for its waterworks, Niagara Falls also hosts an annual blues festival.
Western New York is an area consisting of 17 counties and four main cities: Syracuse, Rochester, Buffalo and Niagara Falls. According to Genesee Country Magazine, the area is approximately the size of Massachusetts and Connecticut combined. Western New York hosts numerous events each year, mostly in these large, better-known cities.
Syracuse International Film Festival
Syracuse hosts its five-day International Film Festival every October. The festival screens films from well-known as well as up-and-coming filmmakers. Established in 2005, the festival aims to create a filmmaking economy in Syracuse and central New York, and screens a variety of new, independent and international films and videos. Tickets range from single screenings to a full festival pass.

Rochester Irish Festival
Each September the Rochester Irish Festival showcases Irish culture and heritage with events such as Irish dancing classes and performances from a number of traditional Irish bands. The festival includes a Celebration of Mass each year on the Sunday during festival weekend, with tickets available for an Irish breakfast following the service. Vendors sell Celtic-themed items such as apparel, jewelry and gift items.

Taste of Buffalo
Every summer the Taste of Buffalo is held in the streets of downtown Buffalo, New York. More than 50 local restaurants and wineries share popular dishes with the city's residents and visitors, who purchase "taste tickets" for samples. The two-day event includes local bands and a culinary competition between top local and national chefs. Audience members participate as judges to decide the winner of each round of the competition.

Niagara Falls Blues Festival
Each year at the start of September, the streets of Niagara Falls host numerous blues bands to celebrate the genre. The two-day festival is free, with a variety of food and drink available from local vendors. Musicians can watch and listen, or even participate in late-night jam sessions offered with legendary blues musicians.
