Ct Technologist Spend A Workday

How Does a CT Technologist Spend a Workday?

Job Description and Work Environment

CT technologists are specific radiology technicians who use computerized tomography (CT) scanners to produce cross-section radiographic images of a patient's internal organs. These images are used to diagnose illnesses or injuries. All CT techs work in a radiology imaging facility, whether the facility is an independent practice or in a hospital.

Physician Orders and Scanning

Physicians send patients to CT technologists with specific orders for the scans. CT techs interpret these orders to prepare for the type of scanning they will have to do. While scanning, CT techs have to identify any possible anomalies in a patient's anatomy and attempt to take additional images of this abnormality. After they obtain the ordered images, they then give the radiographs to the facility's radiologist for interpretation, and then send the films with the radiologist's report the ordering physician for additional interpretation and diagnosis.

Patient Interaction

CT techs have to formally meet with the patients to explain the CT scanning process and administer any necessary contrast materials for the imaging. They answer any questions the patients may have and help alleviate any concerns. They also have to help position the patients on the scanner.
