Arizona Continuing Education For Massage

Continuing education keeps your Arizona massage license current.

Two years can pass by quickly, and if you haven't completed 25 hours of continuing education, you won't be able to renew your Arizona massage license. Fortunately, there are many options for completing this requirement.

Requirements

Of these 25 hours, 12 hours may be fulfilled through distance or online learning, and the other 13 must be completed through seminars, workshops or classes. You'll want to make sure that you're taking your classes with an approved provider.

Approved Providers

Taking your continuing education with an approved provider not only guarantees that your work will count toward your license, but it also ensures that your educational experience will be the best quality available. An approved provider may be an in-state massage school or a community college that offers massage courses. Any course offered by a NCBTMB-approved provider or a massage association will count toward your continuing education requirement. In addition, the Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy provides an online list of massage schools, all of which are approved providers (see Resources below).

Online Hours

You may take up to 12 of your continuing education hours online through distance learning, although no online classes are required. Since massage is a hands on trade, it would be best to take your business related classes online. There are many subjects that will be useful to you as a massage therapist, such as tax filing, marketing, building a website and insurance billing. Online classes are a great way to keep up to date with your education while keeping a flexible schedule.

Other Hours

Massage therapy is continually expanding and evolving over time. Taking continuing education courses is a great way to keep up to date with the advancements in your trade. Any hours that you fulfill by attending workshops, seminars, lectures or classes can be used to hone your specific techniques and increase your skill set. There are technique classes ranging from hot stone massage to sports massage to lymphatic drainage. You will have the opportunity to learn from various experts in the massage therapy field.

Warning

It is against the law to practice massage therapy in Arizona without a license. If you are not able to renew your license because you have failed to complete your continuing education requirements, it will be costly. Anyone caught practicing massage without a license will be charged with a Class C misdemeanor. The Arizona State Board of Massage Therapy does not offer any extensions on license renewals, so it is of the utmost importance to complete your continuing education within the allotted two years that your license is valid.
