Medical imaging technicians must complete a training program before entering the field.

Medical imaging technicians are health care professionals who perform imaging and diagnostic procedures on patients. The medical imaging field encompasses mammography, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging. Duties of a medical imaging technician include explaining procedures to patients, positioning patients, minimizing radiation exposure and operating the imaging equipment. Radiologists use medical images to diagnose various ailments. Graduates of a medical imaging program must take the national certification examination offered through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
