Certified Nurse Technician Schools

Nurse technicians assist elderly patients.


Certified nurse technicians perform similar duties as nurse aides. Their main responsibility includes direct patient care and assisting patients with their activities of daily living, which consist of bathing, grooming and preparing meals. In order to become certified, nurse technicians must take a national examination, which is administered by the board of nursing. Certified nurse technical programs are offered at vocational schools, hospitals and community colleges.


Manhattan Institute


Based in New York City, the Manhattan Institute is a licensed and accredited career school that provides practical training in several allied health care fields. In addition to the patient care technician course, the institute offers courses in phlebotomy, medical billing, medical assistance, and EKG technician. The nurse technician course is a 120-hour program. The program is designed to prepare students for work in nursing homes, community services, and other health care facilities. Course offerings include vital signs, OSHA standards, anatomy and physiology, and pharmacology. Upon successful completion of their training students will receive a certificate and are eligible to take their national examination.

Florida Hospital


Florida Hospital offers various programs in nursing. The nurse technician course is provided to students who wish to work in acute care. Areas of specialization in nurse technology include critical care, medical psychiatry, oncology and pediatrics. In addition to classroom training, students will receive hands-on experience in nursing by working in pre-professional programs in acute care. The program is open to entry-level and senior nursing candidates. Students who wish to enroll in the senior nurse technician program must be in their last semester of nursing school. The training requires 16-weeks of supervised clinical practice. After selecting an area of specialization, entry levels nurse technician students will work in the intensive care unit at either Florida Hospital or a partner hospital.

McLaren Regional Medical Center


McLaren Regional Medical Center's nurse technician program is a paid training program designed to help nursing students learn the practical application of their classroom training. Students will fulfill their practical training by working at a supervised health care facility, they will also receive additional classroom instruction. During their training students will learn techniques such as insertion of urinary catheters, monitoring EKG's, managing wounds, and insertion of naso gastric tubes. Admission into the program is highly competitive and is based on successful completion of coursework, instructor recommendations and interviews.
