Ideas For Community Healthcare Events

Community healthcare events provide valuable information to community attendees.

Healthcare events are a great way to bring a community together while providing educational opportunities that have a positive impact on the overall health of those in attendance. There are many choices when it comes to holding community healthcare events. The first thing to do when planning a healthcare event is to determine the overall goal, and from there let the planning begin.

Health Fair

Plan a health fair for the community. Invite health agencies such as the American Red Cross, March of Dimes, American Cancer Society and other health organizations, which promote education on preventative care and health. Provide attendees with opportunities to get screened for conditions such as high blood pressure, diabetes and scoliosis. Have the local hospital or blood bank come and allow guests to donate blood. Invite the local police department, fire department and emergency medical service to meet attendees and educate them about the services they provide to the community.

Seminars

Provide a variety of seminars for the local community. First, survey the community and learn about its needs so that you can provide healthcare seminars that benefit the community. Seminar ideas include personal defense for women, anti-bullying, preventative care for adults and children, local community resources and even veterinary care for four-legged friends. Ask local health care professionals, businesses and veterinarians for help in both planning and putting on the event. Many of these people will be willing to provide a seminar free-of-charge in exchange for an advertising opportunity.

Mental Health Day

When it comes to healthcare, do not forget the community's mental health. Especially consider teenagers, young adults and parents who may be dealing with the stresses of coming of age. Assess the needs of the community by talking to the counselors at the local high school and community college. Contact local psychiatrists and psychologists and ask for help in planning an event that revolves around mental health, including resources, help lines, relaxation techniques and addiction prevention.

Fundraiser

A great way to bring awareness into a community on a variety of health issues is to plan a fundraiser. Many organized fundraisers are already established and easy to plan, such as the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life or the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Other opportunities include holding a fun run for a local hospital or charity such as the Ronald McDonald House. Allow the organization to provide awareness booths at the event to provide the community with valuable information on prevention.
