Do Breast Enhancement Pills Cause Weight Gain

In spite of all the advertising, breast enhancement pills are generally regarded as ineffective and can have unwanted side effects such as weight gain.

The Estrogen Effect

Breast enhancement pills certainly can cause weight gain if they contain phytoestrogens, substances found in plants that are very similar to the human hormone estrogen.

Because the phytoestrogens in many breast enhancement pills are so similar to estrogen, their mechanism of enhancement is also similar--water retention in breast and other tissues, and therefore weight gain.

Phytoestrogen Enhancement

According to the site Drugstore.com, a common phytoestrogen used as a supplement and found in some breast enhancement pillsis black cohosh and "people with high blood pressure or heart disease should not use black cohosh. Because of its similarity to estrogen, women with estrogen-dependent cancers or those taking birth control pills or estrogen therapy should not use it."

Non-phytoestrogen Enhancement

Other enhancement pills claim to increase breast size by "increasing the storage of new fat in the breast's connective tissue," but body fat is a dense substance and more of it would therefore cause weight gain, too.
