Various educational grants are available for Florida women.
The state of Florida has an abundance of education grants for women. Grants are available to attend state universities, public community colleges and eligible private nonprofit colleges and universities. There are even grants for women to improve their education through eligible degree-granting private colleges and universities that are ineligible under the Florida Private Student Assistance Grant.
Florida Grant Categories
Four main grant categories in Florida are: Public Student Assistance, Private Student Assistance, Post-Secondary Student Assistance and Public Post-Secondary Career Education Student Assistance. The Public Student Assistance is for students who attend state universities and public community colleges; the Private Assistance is for students attending eligible private, nonprofit, four-year colleges and universities. The Post-Secondary Student Assistance is for students attending eligible degree-granting private colleges and universities not eligible under the Florida Private Student Assistance Grant. There's also a Florida Public Post-Secondary Career Education Student Assistance for students who attend eligible and participating Florida community colleges or career centers operated by district school boards. With such variety, there's bound to be a grant that fits most needs.
Bright Futures Scholarships
Female students who meet above-average educational criteria can access The Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program. This program exists thanks in part to three lottery-funded scholarships: Florida Academic Scholars Award, including Academic Top Scholars award, Florida Medallion Scholars Award and Florida Gold Seal Vocational Scholars Award. The grants are available to Florida residents who are U.S. citizens. Applicants cannot be in default of any state or federal loan, without making satisfactory arrangements for repayment.
Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant
Grants are available for women who want to earn their first degree.
Women of Hispanic ethnicities planning to attend either a public or eligible private institution in Florida are eligible to apply for a Jose Marti Scholarship Challenge Grant Fund. The JMSCG Fund need-based merit scholarship provides financial assistance to eligible students planning to attend Florida public or eligible private institutions. Priority is given to students who want to earn undergraduate degrees. Applications must be made during a student's senior year of high school.
The number of awards annually depends on total contributions from private donors and from the Florida Legislature.
Minority Teacher Education
Minority Teacher Education grants are based on performance.
Women from any minority group desiring to enter teaching are eligible to apply for The Minority Teacher Education Scholarship (MTES). It is a performance-based program, administered by the Florida Fund for Minority Teachers, Inc. The agency is affiliated with the University of Florida's College of Education. Participating institutions include public colleges and both public and private universities.
