The school offers several related courses of instruction, including phlebotomy, radiological technology, respiratory therapy and surgical technology. Louisiana Tech University at Shreveport
Louisiana Tech University at Shreveport offers an Associate of Science in nursing as well as classes that prepare the student to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission, Inc., and approved by the Louisiana State Nursing Board. The accelerated curriculum allows licensed practical nurses with at least a year of experience in a clinical setting to take advanced placement in the registered nurse program and qualifies them to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam.
Northwest Louisiana Technical College
Northwest Louisiana Technical College of Shreveport grants a technical diploma in practical nursing, which allows the graduate to sit for the licensed practical nurse licensing exam. Students in this program take a variety of health and science classes, including nursing fundamentals, advanced pharmacology, psychiatric nursing, obstetrics and pediatrics. The 56 credit hours that make up this degree program meet transfer requirements for some associate degree of nursing programs. This college also offers a technical diploma in patient care, which requires only 27 credit hours.
Bossier Parish Community College
Bossier Parish Community College, or BPCC, adjacent to Shreveport, offers several Associate of Science degrees as part of its division of Science and Allied Health. Available majors include nursing, medical assistance, occupational therapy, emergency medical care and respiratory therapy. BPCC also offers certificate programs for pharmacy technicians, phlebotomists, electrocardiograph technicians and emergency medical technicians. In addition to preparing students for work opportunities and licensing exams, many of these credits are transferable to 4-year institutions. The college hosts regular Transfer Days, allowing students to meet with representatives of local 4-year colleges.
