Sonography Schools
Ultrasound, often called sonography, is the use of high frequency sound waves to aid in the diagnosis of disease. A diagnostic medical sonographer is a key part of the health care team that diagnoses disease. The sonographer works to capture images of anatomy and possible pathology of a patient. She then passes these images on to the physician for review. Sonograms can detect a wide variety of pathologies almost anywhere in the body.
Midland College
This junior college was founded in 1972. Due to recent generous gifts, this campus in west Texas has expanded to cover 224 acres. Several new buildings were built and state-of-the-art equipment purchased with the funds. This school offers two pathways to obtain the designation of diagnostic medical sonographer. The first is an associate of applied science degree with a concentration in advanced sonography as well as core science courses. The other program is shorter, with fewer core science courses. Graduates receive a certificate.

Tyler Junior College
Tyler Junior College was founded in 1926 dedicated to a three-point mission: to produce graduates with a sound education, offer an active student life and encourage community service. Located in north Texas, this school offers an associate of applied science in diagnostic medical sonography as well as an advanced certificate for select graduates in vascular technology. The programs give students a solid core classroom curriculum in addition to four clinical rotations. During clinical rotations, students obtain direct experience using ultrasound equipment and interacting with patients. Class size is limited; therefore, it is imperative to apply early. Financial aid is available if necessary.

Alamo Colleges - St. Philip's College
Founded in 1898, St. Philip's College was first a private college with fewer than 20 students. It was originally begun as a sewing school for girls by an Episcopal bishop. It is now part of the Alamo Community College system and no longer has a private college status. The school offers a five-semester, two-year program in diagnostic medical sonography with emphasis on obstetrics and gynecology. Classes are daytime only and run from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Students are required to attend all classes in order as listed in the curriculum. St. Philip's College is one of the most culturally diverse and fastest growing community colleges in the United States.

Temple College
This community college in the heart of central Texas offers a two-year program for those interested in becoming registered diagnostic medical sonographers. Graduates will hold an associate of applied science degree and qualify to take the registry exam. Upon passing the exam, they will have the necessary credentials to work as a sonographer. The school is dedicated to equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge required to perform in their careers to a high standard of excellence. Temple College also offers an advanced certification in the field for those wishing to advance further.
