Let a friend who has breast cancer know that you support her.
If you have a friend who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, then you have a unique opportunity to lavish her with the love, support and encouragement she needs for what could be one of the most trying and defining times in her life. Breast cancer patients can face a great deal of stress, pain, sadness, depression and resentment. Let your friend know that you have not forgotten her and that you support her through this entire process.
Hats and Scarves
Fill a decorative box or a small retro trunk with decorative hats and scarves to fit several different seasons. This is a great way to help your friend feel beautiful and to have options to make herself feel beautiful. A trunk of hats and scarves also helps to encourage a friend who is preparing to start chemotherapy. Try to buy the hats and scarves on sale so that you can stretch your money and provide at least five options.
Pretty Blouses
Individually wrap at least three pretty blouses or shirts that button up the front. These clothing items will "help people who have trouble getting their arms over their heads in the first days after surgery," writes breast cancer survivor Phyllis Johnson at Health Central. You can provide a variety of styles, including sleeveless, long-sleeved and short-sleeved shirts. If you have the budget, include a necklace that can be worn with all three blouses or shirts.
Serenity Basket
Create a "serenity basket" using an old basket from a thrift store or from around your house. Line it with a soft washcloth or hand towel with your friend's initials monogrammed on it. Then, place a bottle of hand lotion without fragrance, a wide-based candle, a CD of peaceful music such as nature sounds or a classical symphony, a journal and pen, a pack of tissues, an eye mask, and a box or two of your friend's favorite candy.
