Doctors welcome correspondence from patients.
Appointment letters to a doctor are useful when you want to discuss highly sensitive information and want only the doctor to see it. Appointments are easily made by speaking to a receptionist, but some people feel a need to communicate directly to the doctor as they request an appointment and also tell the doctor about fears or concerns. The doctor may respond in writing or call you if that's the case. Or the writer may have apprehensions about a scheduled visit. If it's just an appointment request or routine checkup an assistant may call you back to confirm that the doctor has read your letter and looks forward to seeing you.
Instructions
1. Write the letter requesting an appointment or tell the doctor about concerns you have regarding an appointment that you have made. Suggest a specific day and time for a requested appointment and also offer a range of times and days when you are available.
2. Discuss any changes in your health or unusual pain you are experiencing, if appropriate. If you are concerned that your appointment is several weeks away, tell the doctor you really need to see her sooner.
3. Sign your letter with a closing such as, "Sincerely yours." Sign and mail the letter.
