Guest Services
Her day usually begins with her checking in with the night crew to find out if there were any check-ins, check-outs or guest problems. If any guests had problems, he will tend to those guests first. He must ensure that they are happy with their stay, as word-of-mouth advertising is a must in the hotel industry. He will then greet any guests that checked in the night before. Guests that stay in a luxury hotel expect the best and part of providing the best service is letting them know that the manager is ready, willing and able to help them if needed.
Hotel Inspection
Next on her list is usually an inspection of the hotel. Guests at a luxury hotel expect the hotel to be clean, neat and well cared for. She will check vacated guest rooms to ensure that housekeeping is doing a good job cleaning and resetting the rooms. If she notices any jobs that aren't being done up to par, she will show the housekeeping staff. If there is a head housekeeper, the manager will usually inform her and let her deal with the housekeeping staff.
Bookkeeping
Once he has taken care of individual guests and inspected the hotel, he will turn his focus to checking the finances of the hotel. He may have an accountant that does the in-depth analysis but, even in this case, he will still have to ensure that the books balance for each shift and each department, including the restaurant, bar, spa and any other fee based services. If there are any discrepancies, he will try to discover the reason and may interview the employees that were on duty when the discrepancy occurred.
Shift Change
The manager's day usually ends with checking employee schedules, and meeting with shift managers or other employees to give them instructions for the upcoming shift. Although she may leave the hotel for the day, she is still on standby should anything happen at the hotel that needs her attention.
