Medicare and adult day care servies
Medicare is a socialized health care insurance program that is distributed by the U.S. government which supplies medical coverage to senior citizens and those who are eligible for its services under certain regulations. Medicare has restrictions to what it can be used to cover or compensate which means knowing and understanding the guidelines under which it operates.
Medicare Compensation
Medicare will compensate for the medical expenses for certain patients like those with Alzheimer's disease, but it will not compensate for non-medical guardian type aid which is what is found in adult day care programs. These programs provide what is called custodial care services. Within the limited parameters of certain situations, expenses from an adult day care program can be compensated by Medicare.
Mental Health Treatment
Mental health treatment and services can be covered by Medicare in regards of the monitoring and administrating of medication to mental health patients. This can be done in an outpatient mental health clinic. The patients can receive this coverage if the adult day care center also has an outpatient mental health clinic inside it.
Mediction Administration and Monitoring
Those patients who are recuperating from a health crisis can receive medication administration and monitoring within an adult day care center clinic with coverage from Medicare. Both cases must be in conjunction with a physician's prescription. The benefit of this for patients is that they can take advantage of the other services provided by the center along with the treatments they will receive.
Part C Medicare Advantage
Certain healthcare plans under Part C Medicare Advantage will provide restricted adult day care insurance coverage in conjunction with the home care services they also provide. It is not a requirement of Medicare that these plans provide these kinds of services together. As a result of this, it is completely up to the actual service plans to determine what they are willing to cover.
PACE
PACE, which stands for the Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly, is supported by the partnership between Medicare and Medicaid. This program supplies all-around home and community care services. Included in this package is adult day care coverage for fragile seniors who without it would have to enter into a nursing home for their care and services. Only certain states have PACE available for their senior residents. PACE is also limited to economically disadvantaged senior citizens who are eligible to receive Medicaid and Medicare.
