Which Bottles Have Bpa

Many bottles contain dangerous BPA.

Plastic bottles have raised a huge concern because of the BPA, or Bisphenol A, that is found in them. BPA in studies as early as 1936 have shown that they mimic estrogen levels, which promote human breast cancer cells and have been shown to reduce the sperm count in male rats. With alarming finding such as these, it's no wonder why many have scrambled to find a better solution. However, these solutions may still contain BPA in them, making them no better than a plastic bottle.

Plastic Bottles

Commonly found bottles in vending machines are notorious for containing BPA in them. They are convenient to consumers because they are often cheap, as well as convenient to the manufacturers that use these bottles for their products because of the costs. Even the harder plastic water bottles can be unsafe to use due to their BPA contents.

Aluminum and Metal

Aluminum and metal bottles seemed to be the solution when the first concerns of BPA were addressed. However, both metal and aluminum bottles are no better than plastic bottles because they too have levels of BPA in them from the epoxy liners found in them. This includes the popular SIGG bottles, however, they have released a statement saying that any bottles containing the epoxy liners stopped being made in August 2008. Therefore, any SIGG bottles that were made after August 2008 are now safe to use.

Safe Plastics

Some plastic bottles are safe to use, but it's important to know and understand which are safe and which are not. You can find out this information by finding out what number is on the bottom of your bottle. Generally, the recycling number "7" is a number you want to avoid in plastics. However, the number "7" is not always bad, but research is still being conducted, so to be safe, you should look for other numbers. The safest plastic numbers are 2HDPE, 4LDPE and 5 polypropylene 2HDPE.

Steel Bottles

Another option is to go with a stainless steel bottle. Stainless steel bottles do not contain any BPA and do not have any liners. However, because of their similar resemblance to an aluminum or metal bottle, it is important to be able to distinguish a steel bottle. The best way to do this is to check the label on the product in the description. If you cannot find this information, then you should try to find another brand or model that does say "stainless steel," just to be sure.
