Becoming a CNA on Long Island


If you are looking for a certified nursing assistant training program on Long Island, you have several options in cost, distance, and quality of the program. Becoming a CNA requires 120 to 130 course hours of training to qualify to take the exam. The course of study usually involves training in community nursing, basic nursing skills, CPR, health law, and medical ethics.


York College CUNY Certified Nursing Assistant Program


York College in Jamaica, Queens, is a member of the City University of New York education system. This program is 130 course hours, and covers what you need to know to take the New York State CNA exam. Classes are on Saturdays between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. and last for 14 weeks. Alternatively, you can take a 33-week course with three-hour classes on three days during the week. York is a senior college in the CUNY system, and primarily serves students from the metropolitan New York and Long Island areas. If you wish to continue your studies to an advanced nursing degree, York College offers a bachelor of science in nursing program.

Long Island Educational Opportunity Center


The Long Island Educational Opportunity Center is a branch of Farmingdale State College. You can choose to study at either the Brentwood or Hempstead location. The CNA program lasts for 10 weeks and leads to the exam as a certified nursing assistant. This program is free to those who can demonstrate financial need, and they must how proof of financial eligibility for admission. The LIEOC's overall mission is to offer services to students with educational or economic need.

LaGuardia Community College


The LaGuardia Community College workforce training center offers a 135-hour CNA training course. Located in Long Island City, the program is a 120-course-hour program with an additional 15 hours in training for the CNA exam. You must have at least an 8th grade level of math and speak fluent English for admission to this program, offered through the college's department of adult and continuing education.
