The Average Salary Of A Radiographer In Kentucky

Radiographers perform medical tests like X-rays, magnetic resonance imaging, mammograms and computed tomography scans. In 2010, radiographers working in Kentucky earned an average of $46,230 per year, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. Starting salaries for radiographers in the state averaged $33,887 annually. The average income of Kentucky's radiographers differed throughout the state's major regions.


Western Kentucky


The Green River region, including the cities of Henderson and Owensboro, featured the highest average annual wages for radiographers in western Kentucky as of 2010, reports the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. Salaries in the area averaged $46,841 per year. In Livingston, Crittenden, Lyon, Thigg, Christian, Todd, Muhlenberg, Hopkins and Caldwell counties, radiographers earned an average of $42,737 per year. Radiographers employed in McCracken, Ballard, Carlisle, Hickman, Fulton, Graves and Calloway counties received an average of $42,521 annually.


Central Kentucky


The Lincoln Trail region, which includes Elizabethtown and Fort Knox, was the second-highest paying area for radiographers to work in statewide as of 2010, explains the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. Salaries in the region averaged $47,618 per year, approximately three percent above the statewide rates. In the Cumberland Lake area, including Somerset and Russell Springs, radiographers earned an average of $45,416 annually. Those working in the Barren Springs region, including the cities of Bowling Green and Glasgow, averaged yearly salaries of $44,783.


Eastern and Southeastern Kentucky


Radiographers employed in Boyd, Carter, Greenup, Elliott and Lawrence counties enjoyed the highest average annual salaries statewide, averaging $48,855 in 2010, according to the Kentucky Office of Employment and Training. In the counties surrounding the cities of Hazard and Hyden, salaries for radiographers averaged $45,888 annually. Salaries for radiographers in Bell, Clay, Harlan, Jackson, Knox, Laurel, Rockcastle and Whitley counties averaged $43,691 per year. Earning an average of $42,086 annually, radiographers in Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin and Pike counties were the lowest-paid in eastern and southeastern Kentucky, and the second lowest paid statewide.


Northern Kentucky


In Louisville and the surrounding area, radiographers received an average of $47,415 per year. Radiographers employed in Frankfort, Lexington and their surrounding areas made an average of $47,146 annually. Salaries for radiographers in the Fort Mitchell area averaged $46,379 per year. The lowest wages for radiographers in Kentucky were found in Morehead, Owingsville and Maysville and their surrounding areas. Radiographers working in these areas earned an average of $41,755 per year, approximately 10 percent below the Kentucky statewide average.
