Xray Tech Certification Programs In Indiana

Radiologic technology programs in Indiana


Postsecondary institutions in Indiana provide multiple academic options for pursuing certification as a radiologic technologist. Prospective students may apply to an associate's degree program for entry-level employment opportunities or to a baccalaureate program for postgraduate advancement and specialization as well as career prospects.


University of Southern Indiana


The bachelor of science degree in radiologic technology at the University of Southern Indiana is a four-year program that prepares students to write the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification examination. The first year and a half of the program consists of general education curriculum while the remaining two and a half years are devoted to comprehensive radiologic technology courses. Beginning in the third year, students participate in clinical placements that foster the opportunity for skill and technique development. Graduates of the program are eligible for entry-level employment or may further their education in specialties such as radiation therapy, magnetic resonance imaging and angiography. Prospective students must demonstrate an overall grade point average of 3.0 from high school and are encouraged to observe in a radiology clinic or department for at least 20 hours prior to application.

Ivy Tech Community College


Ivy Tech Community College offers an associate of science in imaging sciences in collaboration with the Reid Hospital School of Radiologic Technology. The two-year program requires 21 credit hours of general education and 59 in radiologic technology courses for a total of 80 credit hours for degree completion. Clinical education takes place throughout the program at Reid Hospital, where students will be supervised by radiologic technology hospital staff. Graduates are eligible to write the ARRT certification examination for licensure. The credits earned through the imaging sciences program may later be applied toward a four-year degree. Applicants must submit high school transcripts and write the Compass Placement exams.

King's Daughters' Hospital


The radiologic technology program offered at The King's Daughters' Hospital and Health Services School provides 24 months of intensive and continuous learning. The academic year begins on July 1 and runs consecutively for six semesters. The first and last six months of the program involve weekday attendance during regular school hours. The middle 12 months of the program require additional weekend and evening attendance at clinical placements. Students are introduced to the fundamentals of anatomy, physiology and patient care during the early months of the program. During the final year students study specialized imaging techniques and the pharmacology involved in medical imaging. Prospective students must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, write the ACT or SAT exams and complete the prerequisite courses which are comprised of English composition, intermediate algebra, introduction to computers, interpersonal communication and introduction to psychology.
