Girl Scout Cadette Interest Projects

Organizing a cluttered space is one example of an interest project for a Girl Scout Cadette.

As a youth organization aimed at grooming today's young ladies, the Girl Scouts is a practical leaning environment for decision-making skills and life lessons. When a Girl Scout reaches the Cadette level, special interest projects are encouraged for learning more about the world. With specific requirements that fall under headers of "learn," "do" and "share," these projects offer ideas for each interest that must be completed to earn a badge.

Couch Potato

According to the Girl Scouts, "the 'Couch Potato' Interest Project is a cool way to improve your TV viewing habits." Keep a viewing log, noting any time you watch TV. "Learn" by watching a television show and noting any stereotypes being portrayed for a future group discussion, or pay attention to advertising during commercials and identify the target audience like marketers do when planning the commercials. "Do" by watching a cooking show then trying a recipe or organizing a troop visit to a local TV station and learn about how it runs. "Share" by watching a documentary and speaking about it with your troop, or host a TV dinner party, planning a healthy dinner for eating while watching a movie or show together.

On Your Own

Eventually, you grow up, move out and begin watching your budget. Explore the future by first calling a Realtor and inquiring about rental properties or visiting apartments with an adult to weigh options on size and price. Find one you like and include the cost as rent for a budget. For the learning requirement, call around for basic cable prices, inquiring about the cost of turning on electricity, water and gas. Interview insurance salespeople for health insurance quotes, figuring all of these into budget. Do a project about credit card debt and ways to keep it low. Share by creating a public service announcement for the troop on credit card debt or speaking on the importance of budgets.

G.O. Girl!

Get organized when attempting this interest project. Begin by clearing desk space, closet space or another cluttered living area and organizing the space. Learn by practicing feng shui with troop, encouraging everyone to implement the practice at home, or help an adult plan a family trip by organizing a packing list. Do a room makeover at home or for someone else, and consider using feng shui. According to the Girl Scouts, a Cadette may share by "developing a list of personal organizing strategies you can use to reduce your family's level of stress" or looking into a career as an event planner, then sharing findings with other troop members.

Uncovering Evidence

Researching a career in forensics then sharing what is learned with the troop helps you earn this badge. Begin by taking your fingerprints, noting which one is of which finger. Learn more about this career path by interviewing a forensic scientist or a medical examiner, then preparing a report on the career and what education is needed. Make a plan for a troop field trip that includes visiting the police station and seeing a forensic investigator's office or lab, or write a scene for a "CSI"-type television sact out. Share this interest by playing a game like "Clue" or host a viewing party for the shows "Bones" or "NCIS" and discuss the instruments used by forensic scientists.
