What Happens At Physical Exam For Hormonal Imbalance

General Physical

The doctor will perform a physical. For an accurate testing for hormonal imbalance, a doctor will check the body overall. A physical will set a baseline of health for the testing as well as determine if any body system is not functioning properly and contributing to hormonal issues (e.g. the endocrine system, glands, ovaries or testicles).

Blood Testing & Referrals

The doctor will either draw blood in the office or give a prescription for blood drawing to be performed off-site. Blood testing can tell the doctor of hormone levels as well as other chemical measurements which can be affected by hormonal imbalance (like insulin, live enzymes or cholesterol).

Medical History

During a physical, a doctor will ask in-depth questions regarding a patient's past and familial conditions and ailments. The doctor will use this medical interview as a method to determine medical history to find any symptoms that may not appear on the blood test or physical examination. The doctor will ask about a range of topics, possibly including weight loss and gain, energy levels, libido, body hair and emotional stability.
