Foods For Healthy Eyes

Your eyes are an important part of your body and deserve the same care as your heart, brain and other vital organs. This should go without saying, but often a person's diet can improve with more than a little bit of tweaking to include foods for healthy eyes. Look over the foods that are mentioned in the list, all of which will help you see better or prevent your eyes from becoming damaged. See if you can't add a few more to your everyday diet.


Carrots


These crunchy orange vegetables are full of beta carotene. This is very helpful for eyes, because it helps to reduce the risk of macular degeneration and cataracts.


Almonds


Almonds and most other nuts are a great source of vitamin E, which is an antioxidant that is particularly potent in the eyes. This vitamin is an anti-carcinogenic and helps to prevent the formation of cataracts.


Spinach


This leafy green has a high concentration of lutein and zeaxanthin. These are both healthful carotenoids that reduce the risk of both cancer and macular degeneration.


Bilberry


Drinking bilberry tea or adding the extract to your diet introduces this powerful flavonoid to your system. It helps to allow the eyes to adjust to light and dark, and it also increases blood flow to the eyes.


Broccoli


Like spinach, broccoli contains lutein and zeaxanthin, and it is also a great source of vitamin C. All of this works together to battle and prevent cataracts and macular degeneration.
