Cancer Fund Raising Ideas

Cancer Patient

Cancer is a debilitating disease that affects millions of people in the US as well as worldwide. Unfortunately, there is no cure to cancer, but with research progressing, this fact may soon

change. However, researchers need funds to continue their efforts. Therefore, donations are often raised to help fight cancer. No matter how small the donation, every donation counts. Persuading your family and friends as well as others to join the fight against cancer can strengthen your efforts.

Walks for Cancer

Hosting a large walking event for cancer has been a popular method for many years. You can have individuals who plan to participate in the event donate a specified amount of money to join. Ask them to persuade their families and friends to join the event too. A great place to host a walking event is somewhere that has a lengthy walking trail. The more the participants walk, the more they can socialize and share their stories with others. As a bonus, you could include fun games for the walkers to participate in at the event. You can also have a variety of food and drinks for sale at the event, which can bring in additional fund-raising revenue.

Pink Day

In the effort to gain funds to donate to breast cancer research, you can start a "Pink Day." The color most associated with the effort to fight breast cancer is pink--many companies sell their merchandise in pink in observance of this. Instead of asking people to buy pink merchandise from these companies, you could sell pink merchandise of your own on the designated Pink Day. You could sell anything from T-shirts to pens. If you shop wisely, you can get a bulk of merchandise that you sell back at a profitable markup. Persuade those at your school or workplace to buy pink merchandise from you, letting them understand that all proceeds go to breast cancer research. In addition, ask them if they would like to make a further donation to the cause.

Silent Auctions

Another effective method of fundraising for cancer is to hold a silent auction. Silent auctions are conducted at charitable events, where you can raise funds and still enjoy the event's entertainment. To increase the amount of bids you receive on your items, set up your items near the ticket area so it will be visible to those standing in line. Make your item description detailed, using bullet points to highlight key features. If you are selling clothing, display them on mannequins so visitors can touch them in case they would like to feel the fabric. Provide the emcee with a cheat sheet so he can keep the audience informed about your items and the remaining bidding time. A good way to persuade other bidders to start bidding on your items is to use staff or volunteers as your first bid, then have the emcee announce your bid price updates and time left.
